Sidney Lumet directs this version of the classic story, based on the smash Broadway musical.
In it Dorothy is now a shy 24-year-old Harlem kindergarten teacher played by Diana Ross. If that doesn't instantly make you curious enough to catch this insanely bonkers adaptation maybe the rest of the synopsis will: A snowstorm brings her to the mysterious Land of Oz; a sprawling, decaying, nightmarish, and dangerous megalopolis that resembles the physical characteristics of New York City.
Co-starring the late King of Pop Michael Jackson as the Scarecrow and Nipsy Russell as the Tin Man, THE WIZ is about as original and crazy as a musical version of THE WIZARD OF OZ can be.
